PRO 12-Ink vs PRO-S 8-Ink: What's the Difference?

• PRO-2000, PRO-4000, PRO-6000, PRO-2100, PRO-4100, PRO-6100 (12 inks): built for photography, fine art and giclée. On top of the core inks they add Photo Grey for smoother black and white, Red and Blue for a wider colour gamut, and Chroma Optimiser for even gloss on photo papers.
• PRO-4000S, PRO-6000S, PRO-4100S, PRO-6100S (8 inks): built for production graphics, posters and display work. They use Matte Black, Photo Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Photo Cyan, Photo Magenta and Grey.

The eight PRO-S inks are the same tanks used in the 12-ink models, so studios running both can stock one set of core inks.

Choose Your Size: 160ml, 330ml or 700ml

Every PFI-1x00 colour comes in three sizes, and you can mix sizes across colours in the same printer.

• 160ml PFI-1100 (this range): lowest outlay per tank, ideal for lower-volume printing, occasional colours or keeping spares
• 330ml PFI-1300: a balance of capacity and cost for regular studio printing
• 700ml PFI-1700: fewest ink changes and usually the lowest cost per millilitre for high-volume work

Matte Black or Photo Black?

Every printer in this range carries two blacks, each with its own nozzles, so there is no manual switching. Photo Black (PFI-1100PBK) is used on glossy, semi-gloss and lustre photo papers. Matte Black (PFI-1100MBK) is used on matte, fine art and canvas media, where it gives a deeper black.

Print Head & Maintenance Cartridge

These printers use the Canon PF-10 print head and the Canon MC-30 maintenance cartridge. When one ink runs low, check the others and the maintenance cartridge so you can replace them in the same order.

LUCIA PRO is Canon's professional pigment ink, developed for colour accuracy, deep blacks, reduced bronzing and long-term print permanence. Do PFI-1100 inks fit the PRO-2600, PRO-4600 or PRO-6600?

No. The PRO-2600, PRO-4600 and PRO-6600 use LUCIA PRO II ink: PFI-3100 colours and the PFI-2100MBK Matte Black in the 160ml size.

How much ink does a Canon PFI-1100 cartridge contain?

Each tank contains 160ml of genuine Canon LUCIA PRO pigment ink. Larger 330ml PFI-1300 and 700ml PFI-1700 tanks are also available.

Can I mix 160ml, 330ml and 700ml tanks in the same printer?

Yes. These printers accept all three sizes, so you can choose the size that suits each colour.

What is the difference between Photo Black and Matte Black?

Photo Black (PFI-1100PBK) is for glossy, semi-gloss and lustre photo papers. Matte Black (PFI-1100MBK) is for matte, fine art and canvas media. Both have dedicated nozzles, so the printer switches automatically.

What does the Chroma Optimiser do?

The PFI-1100CO Chroma Optimiser is a clear ink applied over prints on glossy and semi-gloss papers. It evens out gloss, reduces bronzing and deepens blacks. It is used on the 12-ink models only.
