The PF-06 fits all three series, but each series uses its own inks. A new print head is filled from your ink tanks, so check you have enough ink before fitting it:

Order a maintenance cartridge at the same time, as filling a new head and the cleaning cycles add waste ink. TX Series printers use the Canon MC-30 Maintenance Cartridge (1156C002AB); TA and TM Series printers use the Canon MC-31 (1156C005AB).

How to Replace a Canon PF-06 Print Head

You can fit a PF-06 yourself in around 15 minutes. The steps below follow Canon's procedure for the TM Series; the TA and TX Series are similar. Always follow the instructions on your printer's control panel, as menus and lever positions vary slightly by model.

Before You Start

• Check your ink levels. The printer fills the new head with ink after fitting, so make sure every ink tank has enough ink. Have spare cartridges ready if any are low.
• Let the printer cool. If you have just been printing, wait a few minutes, as metal parts near the head can be hot.
• Keep the new head sealed in its pouch until you are ready to fit it.
• Do not touch the nozzles, metal contacts or ink holes on the new head.
• Wear the gloves supplied with the print head to keep ink off your hands.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. On the printer's HOME screen, go to Setup > Maintenance > Head replacement and select Yes. Wait while the printer prepares (around 1 to 2 minutes).
2. Open the top cover when prompted.
3. Pull the print head lock lever down towards the front.
4. Open the print head locking cover using its grip.
5. Lift out the old print head by its grips and tap OK on the screen.
6. Take the new PF-06 out of its pouch, holding it by the grips.
7. Remove the orange protective caps, holding the head over the pouch to catch any ink.
8. With the ink holes facing the front, insert the new head fully into the carriage.
9. Lower the print head locking cover to lock the head in place.
10. Push the print head lock lever back towards the rear.
11. Close the top cover.
12. The printer now fills the new head with ink, which takes around 10 minutes. Do not remove ink tanks or the maintenance cartridge during this time.
13. Load paper when asked. The printer runs an automatic head alignment so your prints line up correctly.
